Well, let me clarify. 

Australia is the only place (other than in the UK) where you can go into a phone store and walk out with a brand new iPhone without handing over any money. That’s right, England and Australia are special in having a $0 upfront fee.

Of course you’ll get your first bill after a month and you pay the first month of your plan (i.e. $59), and a few dollars in iPhone handset repayments (typically like $2 or $7) , and you have to keep doing that each month for two years. But if you’re going to plan on being alive for a few years still, you’ll probably want a phone, so you’ll probably want to keep on the contract.

In the U.S. and Canadia, there’s a $199 upfront fee. It’s $549 in New Zealand. $459 in Mexico. Free for us.
