At 10am this morning, Vodafone NZ released the long awaited plans (well, long awaited for New Zealand folk) for the iPhone3G.
Vodafone NZ is offering the iPhone3G on a range of plans (well…not really a range..more like 3) as well as the option to buy the phone outright.
The plans start at $80 ($63AUD) with an upfront cost of $549 ($432AUD) for 8gb model and $699 ($550AUD) for 16gb.
A detailed look at the plans -

Australia still awaits VodafoneAU to release the plans for the iPhone3G and most people are hoping they are not as steep as what New Zealand is stuck with.
Are these plans reasonable or way above what you would pay for the iPhone3G? Let us know what you think.
And remember to keep checking iPhoneAE for all the latest news about the iPhone3G.

So, is vodafone NZ the only provider having the rights to sell iPhone 3G in New Zealand? If that’s the case, poor guys, those plans are ridiculous.
Thank God we have optus, telstra and three in australia
I would never pay that much for the iphone.
$250 a month and you still have to pay $199 for the phone!
Vodafone Australia would go broke very quickly with these exorbitant prices.
On the cheapest plan the phone costs AU$1950 but with Telstra on the cheapest plan it costs $999. Even on the $79 plan with Telstra (which is probably more comparable) it comes out cheaper, and that’s with our most expensive carrier!
I couldn’t imagine spending $250 (around AU$200) a month on a contract.
NZ guys…
you will get ripped off LOL
so, now the big question is… Where The Hell Is The Australian Prices?! Pretty sure im goin with optus prepaid anyway, but i would still like to know if vodafone can do better… hurry up lol!
this is so stupid. vodafone nz has screwed me over!! i’m boycotting. but i want one so bad.. but so not worth the price and ridiculously stupid plans! #$%$%$W@#@^&fgnkjdfjg!!!!!
Yeah I’m probably going with optis because They have been upfront and released thier plans, not like vodaphone, hiding thier planns till the last minute,
yeah poor NZ those prises suck. in fact I think with the savings you could fly to OZ get and iphone and the flight would be free!
The NZ prices are absurd! $250 and still pay up front! forget that! Optus looks fantastic! Will be lining up where ever this friday to get mine!
i am actually thinking of getting one from oz.. but will i be able to use it over here?
does optus use sim cards?
Im going with Optus, my dads gonna buy 3 upfront straight away with some cap plan so im good
1 for me
1 for bro
1 for mother
Omg, you poor NZ people… I really hope that’s not what voda are planning to offer in AUS.
na you’ll get a better deal since you have other networks offering it whilst we only have voda.
Ruiner have you pre-ordered any?
This should be on Vodafone AU’s home page:

This is the most ridiculous mobile phone plan i’ve ever heard of. lol…
hahahah omfg, vodaphone took the iphone and raped NZ with it, no lube either
No one in Australia will sign with Vodafone with those over priced plans. Actually surprised Apple let them release the iphone on those data charges. Thought it was part of Apples contract to have decent data rates so as to not cripple the use of the iphone and hinder its market uptake.
I talked to my local vodafone store manager today and she said as far as they knew the iphone is delayed until around the 20th in australia
…wow. That’s terrible. If Vodafone AU is just as bad, then Optus will be mighty popular!
If they make AU plans expensive, they’ll lose their positive image and get ranked similarly to Telstra (though at least Telstra has good coverage). If they make AU plans cheap, there will be a lot of monopoly accusations.
Oh well.
Rofl @ Ben. Seriously Voda NZ, get you head on! Who on earth would pay $549 + (24x$80) for 2 years with 250 mb? I feel so sorry for anyone living in NZ or any business buying for for all of their employies! THIS IS WORSE THAN THE MOCK UP

iPhone pricing plans upsetting many Kiwis
Tue, 08 Jul 2008 6:22p.m.
Vodafone has finally unveiled the full details of the prices it will charge for the new iPhone 3G when it goes on sale just after midnight on Friday morning.
The prices are already generating a lot of disappointment and even anger from those hoping to buy one.
Although it can be bought for as little as $199, users will have to sign up for a two year contract, with hefty monthly payments.
Like many, Tim Kelleher is feeling disappointed with the pricing plans.
Name: tim kelleher
“It seems overly expensive compared to everywhere else in the world,” Mr Kelleher says. “Maybe they have a secret handshake with Apple or something.”
The 8GB iPhone will be available for $199, but its two year contract will set users back $250 per month - that is $6000 over two years.
“$250 dollars a month is just getting a bit crazy,” iPhone user Hamish Cook says. “You get a gigabyte of data, you get a lot more minutes and all that sort of thing, that’s nice. But it’s just too expensive really.”
Other options include paying an upfront cost of $549 for the phone and $80 per month, which equates to a total of $2469 over the two years.
Vodafone says $549 is similar to the price people pay for an i-Pod touch.
“Of course it does a lot more than that,” Kursten Shalfoon from Vodafone says. “It is a phone, it has GPS in it, we give all that value of voice, text and data.”
Interest in the pricing plan was so high, Vodafone’s website crashed this morning. But now online forums are full of comments from disappointed would-be customers and there is even an online petition against the pricing.
One analyst says the iPhone pricing plans are comparable with other local cellphone plans, but New Zealand is always a bit pricey.
Name: tim shepheard
Number: i.d.c. analyst
“New Zealand is an expensive place to buy mobile services, and that is largely due to the fact that we only have two mobile competitors in this country,” IDC analyst Tim Shepheard says.
Regardless, people will be queuing on Thursday night.
Vodafone is the first to say the new iPhone is not for everyone. It is a premium product and that is reflected in the pricing.

Kiwi’s just buy a pre paid optus phone for $800 its still cheaper than you Voda prepaid and stick a sim card for any network in it..
offering unlocked iphone 3G for way cheaper than anywhere i have seen.
http://www.welectronicsltd.com/
ben, that is cheap, however they cannot be sure they will be able to unlock the phones, and if you read the fine print on the page, it says that the minimum order from the web site is 800 euro, which translates to around $1320 in the online conversion i’ve just done..
the vodafone NZ prices are worse than the Rogers pricing in Canada.. I will refuse to pay more than $100ish total per month for an iphone, including plan & phone repayments..
$1320 australian dollars, sorry
all i have to say is… wtf…
Seriously, those prices are really bad. to the point id contemplate contemplating about not thinking about possibly getting an iPhone. shortly after still getting one because they are so frigging awesome.
On another note. why hasn’t the Oz Prices came out yet for vodaphone. They should get there act together the launch is in 3 days…
i already have plans to pick mine up from optus, no time to sit around waiting for prices to be released.
Is anyone queuing at Chadstone?
OPTUS HAVE RELEASED THE INFO!!!! 9:28am!!!
VodafoneAU have released their plans.
They appear to be better than the NZ plans but not by much.
Looks like Optus is the clear winner with their pre-paid choice! (Lets hope Three jumps in soon!)
@ Lilspen, Voda pricing Where???????????????????
i think i’m just going to get an unlocked optus then throw my sim card in it. unfortunatly i will still have to stick with vodafone though as we only have 2networks her in NZ and vodafone is the only one that uses sim cards.
do you think they’ll end up taking the optus prepaid off the market though? you know after they all start getting shipped overseas…
I hardly think that’s gonna be a problem Star, $800 odd is not cheap, given they will possibly be available from Apple stores in the US for US$199, which can then be unlocked.(although Apple may have found a way to sign customers up in store)
